Mary Dolan

Long Way From Home

(Earth Music/Cargo Music)

Record Review by TC Krentz

"Why the hell isn't Mary Dolan famous yet?" This is becoming the local shout out at your typical Mary Dolan show, especially here in the Southland of California, where Mary has become the pride of the San Diego music scene. The answer to that question in our mind here at Boston Girl Guide is that it's just a matter of time.

Mary proves she is well on her way on her 3rd release Long Way From Home. Teaming up again with seasoned rocker Jimmy Crespo (Aerosmith/Rod Stewart), Mary detours slightly from her folk music path to ride a slightly rockier road.

She tears it up just fine on tracks such as "World Comes Down" and "L.A. Song" or the bluesier "Girl Who Falls In Love." Long time fans of Mary will be thrilled with her rendition of Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart." (If I told you that Mary does Janis better than Janis herself, well, I'd lose my job. But just know that if I could say it...)

Mary is an accomplished guitarist and songwriter but it is her raspy, rockin' vocal talent that will make you fall for her in the end.
